Creating a new kitchen space can be a daunting task, but everything that you’ll have to suffer through is going to be worth it. There’s indeed a light at the end of the tunnel.

For those who are reading this article, you might know that I had just my bathroom renovated. Now, I’ve had the opportunity to have worked on my kitchen. Of course, for those asking, my partners-in-crime were still the good folks from Handshakers Constructions. So, if you’re looking to do some kitchen renovation in Cincinnati, OH, you should give them a call.

New Tiles, New Kitchen Space

Now, you might be asking why someone might even want to have their kitchen renovated. Well, there are a lot of reasons why. Having a new kitchen space can be the culmination of many years of planning and effort. But if you want to be practical about it, here are some practical reasons:

Firstly, renovating your kitchen improves functionality. If you are having difficulty with your current kitchen space, doing some renovation work, however big or small, can let you establish a space that works better for you. Add more storage, update appliances, and improve the layout; these are just the ways you can enhance your kitchen’s functionality.

Secondly, renovating your kitchen can be a good way to up the value of your home. A modern kitchen that has been reasonably updated according to contemporary standards is a significant selling point. Even if you’re not thinking about it now, just cleaning up your kitchen and giving it a makeover can be a very worthwhile investment in the long run.

Thirdly, renovating your kitchen can just be a good excuse to bring it more in line with your aesthetic sensibilities. If you’re like me and you do most of the cooking in the house, having a new kitchen space that you want to be in can make a world of difference! Make your kitchen feel more personal and intimate for you; choose from any variety of styles and designs and let the kitchen reflect who you are.

And lastly, renovating your kitchen and any other space in your home can be fun. I know not everyone is lucky enough to have the means to do so, and I’m fortunate enough that I could get the chance to–but when you do have the opportunity to do some renovations in your home, take it. I promise you it will be worth it.

Adventures in Remodeling

Now that I’ve got your mind in a tizzy with why you might want a new kitchen space, this is the part where I tell you how my project went and the challenges I had to deal with to make my vision a reality.

First and foremost, the biggest challenge when renovating your kitchen is the expenses. Darling, it’s no secret that remodeling can be expensive, but a kitchen renovation comes with a pretty hefty price tag. There’s a lot you need to consider, and the expenses can add up quickly. Luckily, Handshakers Constructions was with me to steer me in the right direction and finally settle on a more realistic budget.

Another challenge you have to expect is with the timeline. Renovating takes a lot of work and even more time. Depending on how comprehensive you are with your project, it can easily take weeks or even months to complete. During this period, the obvious will happen: your kitchen won’t be usable (or it will have limited functionality) until the project is completed. You need to be prepared for this. Luckily for me and me and my family, we had a plug-in induction stove kept just for the occasion.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges you’re going to have to face is the fact that some of your ideas are not going to make it to the final product. You might want this set of tiles for your countertop, but either your budget or its requirements don’t fit well with the larger picture. And you’re going to have to cut it out. That’s a hard thing to do. And that’s just an example. I found that consulting with a professional designer to get guidance and inspiration was quite helpful. Fortunately, Handshakers Constructions is chock full of professionals.

Despite the challenges, renovating my kitchen was a rewarding experience. I love my new space and feel proud of the investment I made in my home. If you’re considering a kitchen renovation, going into the process with a realistic budget, timeline, and mindset is essential.
